I don't know what it is that makes me laugh so much when a white man says "shorty." I'm so tired that I debated whether the period goes inside or outside the quotation mark for about a couple of minutes before remembering learning it was on the inside.

Shabbos was excellent, as it always should be. Last night Elizabeth and I went to the home of a well established family in the community that moved to the United States from Great Britain. They indulged me as I asked all sorts of kashrus questions about English foods although nobody gave me a clear answer as to what is actually in Brown Sauce. Don't let your minds go there, people. It's an actual condiment in the UK. Back me up here, Mark.

For lunch we went to the home of a man who was not only a brilliant Doctor but someone who could directly trace their lineage back to Rabbi S. Rafael Hirsch, one of the rabbis I would consider to be a favourite amongst favourites. He was one of the people responsible for what is now the Modern Orthodoxy movement. He took one look at the way things were and said, "Hey - you can have some modernity and not just live exactly like your great-great-great-great-grandparents lived" - that's not an exact quotation of course. They asked Elizabeth like a thousand and one questions about life in Washington State and then I got a lot of questions about growing up and becoming more observant.

We're already invited back next Friday night to the UK family so that is awesome. After shabbos ended I finally watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I'm sure I would have liked it a lot more as a child. :)
