a solemn oath as a yorkshireman
on the july 4th episode of last year, Bert gives his "solemn oath as a Yorkshireman" and it is referenced several times in the conversation.

What weight does it have to give your solemn oath as a Yorkshireman?

I think it's just a pride thing, like a New Yorker swearing an oath to be a New Yorker. If that makes sense.

I don't think I have ever heard that in that context from this side of ye ponde. Huh. Makes sense, though.

I've not heard of it on this side of the pond either, so it's not a typical thing. This is just a guess based on what you've described :-)
