I hate articles of this type for 2 reasons, 1) you'd have to be swimming in coupons to really buy the groceries you need. That means week after week of waiting to get a Sunday paper and collect coupons. No one gets all the coupons they really want in one shot; bunch of crappy Macaroni recipes and fake jewelry ads as filler and 2) you'll just end up buying way more items and quantites than you need. You may save $2 by buying extra tubes of toothpaste, salsa, salad dressings, bread and lunch meat but all of those items have a shelf life that isn't long enough.

If you have a ton of kids and people in your household AND you have time to really look through coupons (clipping/collecting and actually using the ones you need) then yes, it's so much more worthwhile to do all these extra steps.

Most people can't be bothered.
